Pop Culture
· Pop culture influences my daily life every day. Pop culture such a fashion main stream around the society. Pop culture influences me to follow new things and popular things, and change my mind after I follow the new things. On the other hand, I have changed my lunch time since I have been in the U.S. In China, I used to eat lunch at 11 a.m., and never eat lunch about 1pm. After I moved to U.S, I always eat lunch between 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. And I think I just follow the American habit. Since I taking this class I have become aware the pop culture and high culture. Because I think many things in our society have connection with pop culture, it just reminds me every moment.
2. Cultural Identity
· I think the picture which show the Dim sums is present the pop culture in my hometown. Dim sum is the one of popular culture in south China, people like to go to the restaurant to eat some dim sums and drink tea, we called is “Yum cha” so I think this culture is important for Chinese. I also showed some tradition foods, roast pork and chicken, those foods are used to treat people in some traditional festivals. Some of the pop culture is going to be lost because some young people do not want to inherit. Here I showed Piao-se and Cantonese opera. Those cultures are popular form past to present, but now most young people aspire some new things because they think those old cultures are not “cool”. I want more people to remember and inherit our culture, those are our treasures.
3. Reading
· The reading that spoke to me is “They’ve Got to be Carefully Taught”. In this reading, the author did not want her daughter know the background of her family. But the teacher was oppose with the author, and she think it is important to let children know about the family background. In my opinion, I think parents should let their children know the history of their family. And teaching children about the family background, this could help little kids to recognize the race, skin color, and different background. If children know their family background, they can know different country’s people have different skin colors and different religions.
4. Music
· My favorite song is “If I Were a Boy” because this song’s lyric could touch my heat, it said if a girl could be a boy, she could know how to love a girl because she knew how hurt is with the boy in love. And my favorite artist is Beyoncé because I like her voice, I think her voice feels very powerful. Moreover, my favorite type of music is R&B because I think R&B music kind of special. R & B music could make people become exciting.
5. Movies
· I want to talk about my movie review of “Chocolat”. However, I think“Chocalat” such a magic movie, it could bring audience to a dreamlike world. People are free to say anything, and to express feeling because you are free. There is an amazing drama film that I have never seen, and I hope people to watch it if you think you are freedom in the world. And I think drama move is kind of profound, and people need to pay more attention to understand the story. Also, if you like chocolate, you should watch this move because it has many special chocolates showed in the move.
6. Food
· “Custom-Made” this reading makes me think about china’s food market. Nowadays, many companies changer their marketing strategy which fit to people’s flavor. If every companies changer their produce’s idea that follow people’s flavor, I think they can get a good marketing rate. And if some foods or other productions can have more choices, I think this production will sell better. Finally, I think this reading is telling the truth of the market, if you the company want to get idea to produce foods, follow local people’s flavor is the best idea.
7. Prize

· We are four people into a group to interview some one at the Jay pritzker pavilion for our presentation. This pavilion such an amazing architecture and I think the design of this pavilion is an art. The things about the pavilion that I want to say is the lamplight and the free music performance. In the pavilion, it has many free performance during summer, and people can enjoy the free performances here. Also, the pavilion has the beautiful lamplight at night, it looks very different with daytime. However, we interview some visitors about the pop culture and high culture questions at the pavilion. Most people said they prefer to follow pop culture. For me, I think I prefer more with pop culture too because most people always like to follow the main stream from the society.
8. TV
· A popular show that I looked is called “The Ellen Degeneres Show”. This is the only American show that I liked to watch. In this show, the host who called Ellen always could bring audiences emotions. The show is talking about some popular people and things. So, I could know many popular things every day from this shows. The first time that I watched this show was introduce two little kids who was famous from the social mediums,such as the Facebook. As a result, I think this show just like a good way to show that what is happening every day in our society.
